In the centre is exactly where LEADout/Spier’s Ivan Venter found himself as he battled it out with the top teams at the Western Cape Road championships held over 150km in 40 degrees plus temperature near Paarl. He managed to resist the challenges thrown at him from the teams of Lights by Linea, Giant and Alfa Bodyworks to emerge as part of the final break of two riders heading to the line. For company he had recently crowned WC Time Trail Champion, Rohan du Plooy. Du Plooy’s team mate, James Tennent was breathing down their necks in a chase from behind. Du Plooy pipped Ivan for the win in the final meters.
Ivan’s 2nd place here comes hot off another podium at the recent Mpumalanga Tour and bodes well for his preparations before he leaves to Spain once again in February to race and learn at the next level on the European scene.
